Sports for the disabled

For people with disabilities, physical education and sports are an important means of their physical rehabilitation and adaptation in society. This makes them feel like equal members of society and gain confidence in their abilities.

Physical culture, recreation and sports work with people with disabilities is carried out in close cooperation with the committees on labor, employment and social protection, health, the Paralympic Committee, physical culture and sports public associations and clubs of the disabled, children’s and youth sports schools and other sports institutions.

The most priority sports among the hearing impaired are basketball, volleyball, football, athletics, swimming, table tennis, hiking, checkers, chess.

The work on these sports is carried out by the Main Directorate of Sports and Tourism of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the N.F.Sharko Republican Palace of Culture and includes holding sports and wellness events in Minsk, as well as establishing international contacts and raising funds for the development of foreign transport.

N.F.Sharko Republican Palace of Culture

N.F.Sharko RDK unites 11 physical education collectives (KFK) of industrial enterprises – these are KFK MTZ, MAZ, CHUP “Vitok”, MZH “Atlant”, the OFC team (united physical culture collective), OFK “Junior” (under 18 years old), OFK “Veteran” and 4 KFK educational institutions: special schools No. 13, 14, Secondary school No. 91, regional boarding school).

12 specialists (the head of the department, the chief specialist of the department, the instructor-methodologist and 9 coaches) carry out sports and fitness work in 13 sections by sports.

Educational, training and sports work is mainly carried out on the basis of the N.F.Sharko RDC, which includes non-standard sports and gyms. Classes of the football section are held on the basis of Secondary School No. 86, for other sports – at the bases: Secondary School No. 13, BSUFC, Secondary School No. 24, RCOP athletics (Kalinovsky str., 111) and the Palace of Water Sports (Surganova str., 2).

Judo among the visually impaired

In 2011, the institution established a training group for the visually impaired in the number of 5 athletes.

Classes with the group are conducted by the trainer-teacher Kotlovsky Alexander Vladimirovich, who is the senior coach of the national Paralympic judo team among the visually impaired. His students have won prizes in a number of major international competitions:

Kozlov Alexander – became the bronze medalist of the tournament in Heidelberg (Germany) in 2010; took 5th place at the World Games among the visually impaired in judo competitions in Antalya (Turkey); became the winner of a major international tournament in Electrenai (Lithuania) in 2011, in 2012 – participant 1st Paralympic Games in London (Great Britain).

Igor Staselko is the bronze medalist of the tournament in Heidelberg (Germany) in 2010; the winner of the international tournament in Electrenai (Lithuania) in 2011. Kozlov Alexander, Staselko Igor, Abdullin Valery, Manukyan Victoria are members of the national Paralympic judo team.

Rowing is academic

Since May 25, 2010, the department for the training of disabled people in rowing academic, included in the program of the Paralympic Games, has been opened in the Institution “City Center of the Olympic Reserve for Rowing Sports” of the Main Department of Sports and Tourism of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

Given the difficulty of coordinating movements in this sport and the specifics of conducting classes in open water, the recruitment of those who wish to join groups has its limitations and is carried out according to the following criteria:

• visually impaired: disability groups 1, 2, 3;
• with a violation of the musculoskeletal system:
– absence of 3 (three) fingers on the hand;
– shortening of the arm from 4 cm or more;
– blocking, or lack of foot;
• age restrictions:
men – from 17 to 35 years old, women – from 17 to 35 years old,
• height restrictions:
men – from 180 cm, women – from 170 cm.

The training sessions are held according to the training program of the trainer-teacher Ignatovich Alexander Petrovich, the trainer-teacher Shimanskaya Tamara Nikolaevna.

Currently, there are two groups working, and training sessions are held free of charge. During the training, athletes are provided with equipment and sports uniforms.

Chess and checkers

In the State Educational Institution “School of Chess and Checkers”, 3 coaches-teachers work with groups of initial training, who help the younger generation to discover their abilities and opportunities.

Dmitry Vladimirovich Fadeev. He has been visually impaired since childhood, 2nd group. Born on 04/03/1989 in Minsk, graduated from Secondary School No. 188 in 2007. Dmitry joined the sports school in September 2005. And already in November 2005, he was awarded the title of candidate Master of Sports.

In 2008-2009, he was a member of the national draughts team of the Republic of Belarus-100 among juniors.
There are many different awards in Dmitry’s collection. In 2011, he was awarded the title of Master of Sports among the visually impaired. Dmitry is a 3-time draughts champion of the Republic of Belarus-64 among visually impaired men (2007, 2010, 2011).
In 2013, Dmitry took second place at the European Draughts-100 Championship among visually impaired men. And in 2012, Fadeev became the European Champion (1st place) in draughts-100 among visually impaired men.

At the end of 2013, Dmitry was awarded the title of Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus of international class in draughts.
Dmitry’s talent was found and his first coach, Alexander Albertovich Pavlovich, who continues to train him, helped him open up.

Football

The state institution of physical culture and sports “Football Club Minsk” has football skill groups for athletes with visual, hearing and musculoskeletal disorders (including those suffering from cerebral palsy). Trainings are held 4 times a week, the number of people involved is 30 (hard of hearing and visually impaired), the age of athletes is 16 years and older.

Anatoly Ivanovich Usenko trains athletes.

Anatoly Ivanovich Usenko is the head coach of the national mini-football team among the visually impaired, Honored coach of the Republic of Belarus, winner of the television award “Pride of the Nation”. As a coach, he was the champion of the USSR in 1982, the bronze medalist of the USSR championship in 1983 with Dynamo (Minsk). The champion of the Republic of Belarus and the winner of the RB Cup as part of Slavia (Mozyr).

Under the leadership of Anatoly Ivanovich, the team participates in city and international competitions.

The financing is supported by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, the Belarusian Football Federation Association and sponsorship funds.

The visually impaired team is the World champion in mini-football (Brazil, 1998), (Italy, 2002), (England, 2004), (Brazil, 2007), (Turkey, 2011), silver medalist of the World Cup (Argentina, 2008), European champion (France, 2001), (Turkey, 2007), (France, 2009), (Turkey, 2012), silver medalist of the European Championship (Minsk, 1999), bronze medalist of the European Championship (Spain, 1997).

Currently, a certain part of the composition of this titled team consists of players aged 30-40 years. Therefore, the main problem of the team is the preparation of the reserve.
