Ship modeling sport

Belarusian ship modelers have been regularly participating in world and European championships and international competitions since 1993.

NAVIGATOR (International Federation of Ship Modeling Sports) holds 6 different world championships every two years in groups of model classes:
“C” – bench models (not floating), which includes classes:
C 1 – models of sailing and rowing vessels;
C2 – models of ships with a mechanical engine;
C3 (with subgroups) – models of fragments of ships and marine structures, expositions, etc.;
C 4 – miniatures built on a scale of 1:250 and smaller;
C5 – bottled models;
C6 – models assembled from plastic;
C7 – models assembled from paper and cardboard of industrial production.

In these classes of models, Belarusian athletes have the largest number of medals at the World and European championships. These are athletes: Dmitry Kalmykov (six-time world champion), Oleg Khotko (ZMS, four-time European Champion, three-time World Champion), Ignat Yaroshenko, Sergey Karpik and others.

“F” – radio-controlled yachts. The competition consists of a series of races in groups of up to 20-25 yachts at the same time. The yacht can start in 15-30 races.

This group includes classes:
F5-M – “Marblehead” – “Marble head”,
F5-10 – “Tenrater” – “Tenrater” – “Ten” – “formula” class,
F5-E – “Ein meter” – “E” or “One meter”

Competitions in classes F2 –A, B, C (radio-controlled replica models) and F4 – B, C (semi-replica models built from industrial kits) consist of two stages: bench evaluation, as in classes “C” and running competitions. The athlete must guide the model along the route prescribed by the Rules through the gate, enter, without touching the walls, into the dock of a given width, and stop where it must remain stationary for 3 seconds.

FSR – radio-controlled models of boats for a group race. This includes: classes of single-body models of free design, equipped with micro-internal combustion engines of various “cubic sizes”. The races are held in groups of up to 14 models at the same time over a distance marked by buoys.

In Minsk, ship modeling is represented by one center – a specialized children’s and youth sports and technical school for water sports with a ship modeling department. The school has 120 students in 4 areas: poster classes “C”, copies of classes “NS”, radio-controlled yachts and radio-controlled boats of classes FSR.
