Downhill skiing

History If the first alpine skiing coach appeared in the Soviet Union in the mid-thirties of the last century, then the first alpine skiers in Minsk were noticed in the fifties. In 1964, on the initiative of the federation, a decision was made to build a ski resort in Raubichi. Since 1965, the alpine skiing section was transferred to the sports society “Labor Reserves”, where Viktor Novozhilov worked at that time, who later became the founder of water skiing in the BSSR. After the creation of a training water sports base near Minsk, water skiing became an additional discipline in the preparation of alpine skiers in the summer.
In the winter of 1965, the first championship of Minsk and the BSSR was held. Among the first winners were V. Grishchenko and V. Shirokov. The following year, V. Shirokov won the championship of Minsk (January) and the Spartakiad of the BSSR (February). As part of the national team of the republic, V. Shirokov takes part in the second winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in Terskol (Elbrus region) in February 1966.
On October 14-15, 1979, the first summer slalom championship in the history of the Republic took place. Then, the winner among women was a student of the Belarusian State Institute of Physical Culture Olga Ryzhkova, and among men, the strongest was a tenth-grader from Minsk Sergei Mortus.
The first serious results at the All-Union and international competitions by the new generation of Minsk alpine skiers were shown in 1976. Thus, the member of the USSR national team Nadezhda Zelova received a silver medal at the National Championship in downhill, and Olga Shipova became a bronze medalist in the triathlon. Sergey Penigin took fifth place in the downhill. Then followed the success of N. Zelova at the slalom competition in October in Kirovsk, where she took two third places. Being one of the best alpine skiers in the country, Nadezhda Zelova was second in the downhill and fourth in the giant slalom at the international competitions in Austria.
A large gold medal was also awarded to V.S. Yudin for winning the alpine triathlon. He twice became the first out of three starts in the downhill, once won the giant slalom and was second on the special slalom track.
