Historical background
The beginning of the development of table tennis in the Republic of Belarus was laid in 1955-1956, when the first Republican All-Union table tennis competitions were held. Table tennis has received the greatest development in such cities as Grodno – E.K.Kultiyasov, Mogilev – V.S. Metelitsa, Gomel – R.I.Kharlap, in Minsk – A.L. Weinstein, Z.M. Shanyukevich and E.A. Zub..
Among the Belarusian tennis players, the first masters of sports of the USSR in table tennis were V.G. Zlenko (Grodno) and I.I. Lyubimova (Minsk). Athletes achieved great success in table tennis in the BSSR in the 80s under the guidance of coaches N.F. Io ffe and V.A.Efremov. The winners and prize-winners of the All-Union competitions were: I.Minkevich, V.Sinkevich, A.Petkevich, R.Ioffe, T.Reshetnik, I. Yavorovskaya, A.Skuratovich, etc.
High results at the World and European Championships, since the 90s to the present, in Belarusian table tennis are associated with the names of athletes: Vladimir Samsonov, Victoria and Veronika Pavlovich, Evgeny Shchetinin, Tatyana Kostromina, Pavel Platonov, Alexandra Privalova, etc., as well as their coaches A.N. Petkevich, T.G. Petkevich and V.A.Efremova.
The Belarusian Table Tennis Federation has been a member of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) since 1992. The Belarusian Table Tennis Federation has also become independent since 1992. In January 2005, the Minsk city branch of the NGO “FNT” was organized. Currently, the Belarusian Public Association “Table Tennis Federation” is the only public sports association of specialists, athletes and table tennis enthusiasts.
To date, table tennis in Minsk is developing in 4 specialized educational and sports institutions:

There are 345 students in 48 study groups of various levels of training. The national and national table tennis team of the Republic of Belarus includes 24 (57%) athletes from Minsk.
