Field hockey

In the Belarusian capital, field hockey traces its history back to 1978. The Minsk team defended the sporting honor of the capital in the championship of the Republic of Belarus, where it won prizes, and since 1985, having won the qualifying tournament, won the honorary right to represent the Minsk region in the USSR championship among the teams of the first league. In 1983 and 1986, the team was the base for the recruitment, training and participation of the national team of the BSSR in the games of the summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR.

In 1987, having won the silver medals of the USSR championship, Minsk residents received the right to represent Minsk in the highest league of the USSR championship among men’s teams. It was from this time that the team began close cooperation with the Minsk watch factory “Luch”. Under the auspices of the Minsk Watch Factory, the team successfully competed in the USSR Championship games, as well as in a number of international tournaments. So, in the tournament dedicated to the memory of US President John F. Kennedy in 1989, with the participation of teams from 16 countries, the final of the Washington tournament, our team won gold medals. In the 1990 tournament, the team won silver medals. In 1991, thanks to close cooperation with the Minsk watch factory “Luch”, in competition with teams from 8 countries, the team managed to win the competition for the right to own the honorary European trophy – the Columbus Cup, Genoa, Italy.

The Minsk women’s team defended the sporting honor of the capital in the championship of the Republic of Belarus, also taking prizes, and in 1988, having won the games of the qualifying tournament, won the honorary right to represent the Minsk region in the USSR championship among the teams of the first league, from the same year the cooperation of the Minsk women’s team with the Electronics plant begins. Under the auspices of the Minsk Electronics plant, the team successfully competed in the USSR Championship games, as well as in a number of international tournaments. In the 1991 USSR Cup, the team won bronze medals.

The social life of the teams was also actively held – meetings were held with labor collectives and factory management, factory managers as part of sports delegations went with the teams to the largest international competitions, which in turn served to popularize the Luch and Electronics trademarks both in the domestic market of the USSR and a number of foreign countries. For the international tournament dedicated to the memory of US President John F. Kennedy, 1989, a line of watches produced by the Minsk Watch Factory with the symbols of the tournament was made, which was very popular with participants, guests, and officials of the tournament.

The children of the company’s employees were engaged in a children’s and youth sports school for field hockey. Employees of the plant attended the team’s home matches.

The state Institution of Physical Culture and Sports “Minsk Field Hockey Club” was established in accordance with the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee No. 576 dated 03/20/2008, the founder is the main department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Minsk City Executive Committee. The club is financed from the local budget of Minsk, the club is included in Decree No. 116 of the President of the Republic of Belarus “On additional measures of state support for certain sports”.

The club structure includes:
– men’s team;
– women’s team;
– specialized children’s and youth school of Olympic reserve.

The men’s team of the club in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 became the champion of the Republic of Belarus in indoor field hockey and the winner of the championship of the Republic of Belarus in field hockey. The men’s team won the Cup and the Super Cup of the Republic of Belarus in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In 2020, the team won the bronze medals of the European Club Teams Cup (final) in indoor field hockey. In 2018, the team took 1st place in the European Club Teams Cup (Trophy) in indoor field hockey.

The club’s women’s team became the winner of the Republic of Belarus Indoor Field Hockey Championship in 2019, 2020 and 2021, won silver medals of the Republic of Belarus Field Hockey Championship in 2021 and gold in 2019 and 2020. The title of champion in the Cup of the Republic of Belarus belonged to our team in 2019 and 2020. Students of the SDYUSSHOR club play for youth, junior and youth national teams of the Republic of Belarus in a number of international tournaments in the EU countries.

The structure of the club includes men’s and women’s teams, as well as a youth sports school with two hundred students.

Classes at the Youth Sports School are free of charge.
