Archery

Archery appeared in Belarus in 1969. The first coach was Oleg Dupliy. The capital of this sport was Minsk, and in 1970 the first official republican competitions were held here, and their first winners were from here – Nelli Krupnikova and Nikolai Goncharov. The first USSR Masters of Sports in Belarus – Valentina Kiseleva and Konstantin Soroka – were also from Minsk.

In 1970, Mikhail Puzyak moved from Lvov (Ukraine) to Brest with his students. And already in 1971, the men’s team of the Belarusian SSR, competing in the V Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR, won 4th place, for which coach Oleg Dupliy was awarded the title of “Honored Coach of the BSSR”.

In 1972, archery enthusiasts also appeared in Mogilev. The first coaches there were Gennady Pavlov and Vladimir Korobitsyn. A year later, archery sections were opened in Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mozyr,

In 1983, the men’s team of our republic, consisting of Brest residents Boris Isachenko, Igor Kogai and Minsk resident Vladimir Oparin, won a bronze medal at the VII Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR.

In 1985, at the World Championship in Seoul, Vladimir Oparin became a silver medalist at a distance of 30 meters, and as part of the USSR national team, he took fifth place. In 1983, a new name appeared – Olga Zabugina (Moroz). As part of the youth team of the USSR at the European Championship, the Minsk resident won a gold medal in the team championship and a silver medal in the individual championship

Since 1992, the Republic of Belarus has been an independent team, and the Belarusian Archery Federation has become an independent member of the international federation (FITA).

From 1993 to 1997, the head coach of the national team of the Republic of Belarus was Alexander Svidintsov. For the first time, our women’s team competed at the World Championship in 1993 in Antalya (Turkey), consisting of Olga Yakusheva, Olga Zabugina from Minsk and Tatyana Elina from Mogilev took 7th place. And in 1994, at the European Championship, the men’s team consisting of Boris Isachenko (Brest), Vladimir Oparin (Minsk) and Vladimir Dolgonosov (Mogilev) took 6th place.

In 1997, Olga Yakusheva from Minsk became a bronze medalist at the World Indoor Championship, a medalist at two European Championships and, finally, fifth at the Olympic Games in Atlanta

A great contribution to the training of archers from Minsk was made by a pair of wonderful coaches – Oleg Dubinin and Alla Melnik. Having arrived from Ukraine to Belarus, they spent many years in a row putting all their skills and talents into training such athletes as Olga Yakusheva, Vladimir Oparin, Olga Zabugina. Today, the Belarusian Archery Federation has its own face – registered official symbols – an emblem, a flag and chest badges and is actively working to popularize archery in the city of Minsk and all of Belarus.
