Biathlon

Biathlon – winter biathlon is a ski race with weapons at set distances in combination with shooting from a prone position and standing on firing lines. A specific feature of biathlon is the complex combination in one competition of sports of various physiological effects on the body – skiing and shooting. Biathlon originated as a result of competitions related to skiing and shooting, held for many years in our country and abroad.
Biathlon became an Olympic sport in 1960. At the VIII Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley, 1960.
The 1974 World Championships in Minsk went down in history not only as the first biathlon championship held in the Soviet Union, but also as a place to draw the first medals in the sprint.
All-Union Junior competitions, Raubichi, January 19-22, 1978. In the 15km race A.Morozov (Dynamo) with a score of 50.19 (1), he took 1st place. In the same year, in the competitions for the USSR Cup in Bakiruan in the 4x75km relay, M.Lobanov, together with V.Petrishche, V.Ognev and A.Tikhonov, took first place – 1:56.21. At the All-Union DOSAAF competitions in Logoisk in 1972, A.Kirpichnikov became the champion of the USSR.
In 1990, Minsk welcomed the best biathletes of the world for the third time.
In 1995, at the World Championships in Antholz (Italy), Oleg Ryzhenkov won the award in the men’s 20 km race (bronze medal). The men’s team consisting of Oleg Ryzhenkov, Igor Khokhryakov, Alexander Popov and Vadim Sashurin became the third in the 4 x 7.5 kilometer relay race.
In 1996, at the World Championships, Vadim Sashurin showed the third time for 20 kilometers in Ruhpolding (Germany). In the relay, the Belarusians repeated last year’s success and received bronze. And in the team race, Petr Ivashko, Oleg Ryzhenkov, Alexander Popov and Vadim Sashurin became world champions.
5 World Championships were held in Minsk in Raubichi in 1974, 1976, 1982, 1990 and 1999 and two European Championships in 1998 and 2004.
